Framework 119 · A place to begin

Begin Following Jesus

The Good News calls us to trust Jesus Christ and follow Him. Here is a simple way to begin, with Scripture at the center.

Salvation is God’s gift, received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ—not something we earn by completing steps or doing good works (Ephesians 2:8–10). This guide offers a starting point for discipleship, not a formula for salvation.

1. Hear the Good News

Read: 1 Corinthians 15:1–4; Mark 1:14–15

Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead. He proclaimed God’s Kingdom and called people to repent and believe the Good News.

Reflect: What has Jesus done, and how does He call me to respond?

2. Turn to God and trust Jesus

Read: Acts 2:37–41; Romans 10:9–13

Repentance means turning from sin toward God. Trust Jesus Christ, confess Him as Lord, and seek His mercy. Speak honestly to God in prayer; there is no required script to memorize.

Reflect: What am I holding onto that I need to bring before God?

3. Begin reading Jesus’ words

Read: Mark 1; then continue through the Gospel of Mark

Read the passage in its context. Pay attention to what Jesus says and does before deciding how to apply it. Return to the text when questions arise.

Reflect: What does this chapter teach me about Jesus?

4. Pray, love, and put the Word into practice

Read: Matthew 6:9–13; John 13:34–35; James 1:22; Galatians 6:2

Pray sincerely, seek God’s help, and respond with love for your neighbor. Obedience and spiritual fruit grow from God’s grace and the Spirit’s work, not from earning His favor.

Reflect: Whose burden can I help carry today?

5. Grow alongside other believers

Read: Acts 2:41–47; Hebrews 10:24–25

Seek a local church community that faithfully teaches Scripture. Ask about baptism, learn alongside mature believers, and practice the mutual encouragement and care described in the New Testament.

Reflect: Who can help me learn to follow Jesus faithfully?
