Find a Scripture-Centered Local Church
Finding a church is not just about proximity, attendance, or denomination. Look for a community where people learn to follow Jesus Christ and where love for God and neighbor becomes visible in everyday life.
Framework 119 does not certify, rank, or endorse churches returned in a search. These four biblical priorities help you ask better questions as you visit and get to know a congregation.
Four priorities for faithful discipleship
1. Love God wholeheartedly
Deuteronomy 6:4–5; Mark 12:29–30. Does the congregation love the Lord with heart, soul, mind, and strength? Does its teaching invite reverence, trust, prayer, and obedience to Scripture, rather than mere religious performance?
2. Love your neighbor as yourself—and as Jesus loved us
Leviticus 19:18; John 13:34–35. Are newcomers treated with dignity? Is the church hospitable, compassionate, truthful, and willing to serve people outside its own circle?
3. Bear one another’s burdens
Galatians 6:2. Do members pray together, notice suffering, and provide practical care without exploiting vulnerability or making assistance conditional on giving or membership?
4. Cultivate the fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22–23. Look for growing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—especially in the way leaders and members respond to disagreement and correction.
Important biblical safeguards
The four priorities are the foundation of the assessment, but they do not replace careful evaluation of teaching and leadership.
- Faithful biblical teaching: Is Scripture explained in context and open to thoughtful questions? See Acts 17:11 and 2 Timothy 3:16–17.
- Accountable leadership: Are leaders approachable, transparent, and subject to meaningful oversight? See 1 Peter 5:2–3.
- Jesus at the center: Is the good news of Jesus Christ clearly proclaimed, rather than a promise of guaranteed wealth or comfort? See 1 Corinthians 15:1–4.
- Safety and integrity: Be cautious about spiritual intimidation, financial coercion, secrecy around harm, isolation from family, or retaliation for sincere questions.

When you visit
- Read the congregation’s statement of faith and listen to a full sermon.
- Visit more than once if you can, and notice how people welcome and care for others.
- Ask how the church practices discipleship, prayer, safeguarding, and accountability.
- Pray for wisdom and consider the pattern of life you observe, not only the presentation from the platform.
You do not have to rush a decision or surrender your judgment to a leader. Healthy fellowship welcomes sincere questions and encourages the study of Scripture.
